Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men,
For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. ~Psalm 107:8-9

Well, Thanksgiving is upon us and less than a month Christmas will be here.  Man, time sure does fly don’t it?  It just seems like yesterday I was going to my mother’s house for Thanksgiving and here it is again.  I cannot wait until tomorrow.  I am going to get up early so I can watch the Today Show and then the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, while doing that, I will be making my Twice Baked Potato Casserole, Bacon Wrapped Cocktail Wienies, & Pumpkin dip.  I made my Pecan pie cake last night because I knew that with church tonight, I wouldn’t have time.  The recipe is so in depth that it takes forever just to make the batter.  You have got to separate the eggs and then put one egg yolk in at a time.  Then you have to make a foam out of the egg whites and FOLD them in.  It’s one of the hardest cakes I have ever made, but it’s well worth it.  It taste just like a pecan pie.  It’s AMAZING!!  My grandmother had to help me with a couple of things because we never learned anything like that in Home Economics. But it’s good.  Below is a picture of the cake.

Tomorrow, I have got to go to my mother’s at 10 AM.  We don’t eat until 12:30 PM and 1 PM, but I wanted to go over there because I’m sure she is going to need some help.  I have got family coming in from everywhere…Kentucky, Missouri, Memphis…the place is going to be packed full.  Everyone is looking forward to it.  Then I have to leave there and go to my Mamaw Gearlie’s house for Thanksgiving.  I’m going to be so full by the end of the night, I should be able to sleep good.  Thanksgiving food is different in the South than it is in the north.  First, we have our Turkey (which is always a staple across the ocuntry), then we will have Ham, Creamed potatoes (yankees have mashed potatoes.  We don’t like ours with lumps in them), Chicken & Dressing (yankees have stuffing..YUCK!  Thanksgiving isn’t Thanksgiving without Chicken, cornbread, & sage LOL) Cranberry Sauce (Ours come from a can.  It isn’t thanksgiving unless you have the can shaped cranberry sauce.) We have yams, beans, peas, casseroles, rolls, and any dessert you can ever think of.  We, in the South, know how to cook.  My grandmother started teaching me at age 8.  Then in high school I was one of the first boys to ever win the Foods Award in Home Economics.  I love cooking especially this time of the year.

But I only get to be off only one day this year.  I’ve got to come back to work on Friday.  Even though, I won’t be worth a crap. LOL  I think next year.  I’m going to take off the Wednesday before and the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Well, it’s deer season here in Mississippi.  My brother headed out at 4:45 this morning.  We have got about 200+ acres at the house and down in the bottom and behind my Papaw Johnny’s house we have shooting houses.  My brother said that he’s seen several, but hasn’t shot anything.  I think I may go during the second season.  It’s always so hectic around the first season.  I hope our family gets quite a few this year because I love my daddy’s deer jerky.  It’s like a drug, it’s so addictive.  I can eat a whole bag in a matter of minutes.

Well, I have my tree up.  I actually put it up two weeks ago.  I just couldn’t take it any longer.  I had my big tree up and it feel on me and then my mother’s temper came out and I threw it out the door and in the yard.  So, I had to go buy me a new tree and I also bought a new 4ft tree for my bedroom.  I have the one in my bedroom put up, but not in the living room.  I was waiting on this weekend.  It looks really good.  I have a picture of it below.  Just imagine that on a bigger scale and that’s what my living room tree will look like.  I’m also planning to start putting up decorations outside next weekend.  So whenever I get that done, I will also post a picture on here.

Christmas in Cottonplant starts Friday night.  If you can, please come.  IT’S AMAZING!!  It’s one of the best kept secrets in North Mississippi.  The North Mississippi Daily Journal came out and done an article about us to put in the paper, so make sure to look for it.  I don’t know about being there during the week, but I sure will be there on Friday and Saturday nights.  Here’s the link to the website again…

Hey All!!

Happy Friday to everyone!  It’s been one of those weeks.  I was even out sick Wednesday to go to the doctor.  I’ve had a cold for the past two weeks and finally got up the nerve to go to the doctor and get a shot.  I just didn’t want to miss work because they have started a new attendance policy and me being such a good employee don’t want to mess things up.  But anyhoo, I feel TONS better now.  So maybe before Thanksgiving, I will be 100% back to normal.

I mentioned yesterday about Halloween, Obama’s win, and etc.  It has just been a crazy month hadn’t it? I’m so looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I’m ready to eat Turkey, Chicken & Dressing, and all of the other good stuff that comes along with Thanksgiving.  After Thanksgiving though, Christmas in Cottonplant is starting.  We are starting on Friday, November 28 this year.  We didn’t start last year until December 1st, but I just want to tell you.  It is SO much better than last years.  We have got more lights, inflatables, & light shows that you wouldn’t believe.  Even though, I won’t be working at Christmas in Cottonplant during the week, you can bet your bottom I will be there for Friday and Saturday nights.  If you would like to come to this…I have got directions below.

From Tupelo, MS:

Take HWY 78 W to the New Albany/Ripley Exit.  Go North on Hwy 15.  You will go through New Albany.  Keep going north on Hwy 15 and you will pass the Union Co/Tippah Co Line.  Slow down.  It will be a ¼ of a mile.  You will see the lights from the road on the right.

From:  Memphis, TN

There are two ways from Memphis.  You can go down HWY 72.  Just take Poplar Ave to 385.  When you’re on 385 go to Collierville and get off at the Collierville/Corinth, MS exit.  This is hwy 72.  You will go east on 72 for about an hour.  Once you get into Walnut, MS, you will need to slow down.  At the red light on 72, you will turn right.  This is Hwy 15 South.  You will go through the towns of Walnut, Tiplersville, Ripley, & Blue Mountain.  Once you go through Blue Mountain, you will go about 4 or 5 miles.  After you pass the big house on the left.  It’s the next lot on the left.  You will see the house and lights from the road.

Or you can go down Hwy 78/Lamar Ave.  Just take Hwy 78 towards Birmingham.  Once you get into New Albany.  You will take the New Albany/Ripley exit.  As mentioned in the Tupelo directions.  You will go NORTH ON HWY 15.

From Corinth, MS:

Take HWY 2 to Ripley, MS.  Once in Ripley, at the red light at Hwys 4 & 15, you will go left.  Just take hwy 15 South all the way to Christmas in Cottonplant.

If you have any problems with these directions, you can call this phone # 662-266-1887.  We will be glad to guide you in.

I have been holding out on putting my tree up till after Thanksgiving because they say it’s bad luck to put it up before Thanksgiving, but I can’t stand the wait much longer.  I want to go ahead and put it up now.  I have already bought $40.00 worth of new ornaments and I’m buying some new LED twinkle lights and C7s today.  I will take some pictures when I get it up and post them on here.  I have also been thinking how I’m going to do the outside of the house.  I think I’m going to stick to the same plan as last year.  I have about 20 wreaths and those will go on the porch & everything, but this year I think I’m going to put lighted garlands under the windows & lighted wreaths in front of the house.  Also, flanked on both ends of the house, the most charming Christmas trees made out of clear lights.  Also, I think I’m also going to put clear lights in the shrubs on the side and in front of the house.  I plan to have all that done by December 7th.  If all goes well.

Well, here’s to a happy weekend.  Hope you have a great one.

Johnathon

P.S.  I know that I am just babbling in this blog.  There is just so much to say and little time to say it in.  I know I’m jumping all over the place.

Hey everyone!!

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a freakin’ month.  My network wouldn’t let me get onto wordpress.  I apologize.  I hope that everyone has had a glorious October and great November.

I’m just going to keep this short & sweet today because I am trying to get caught up on my work from yesterday.  I was out sick with all the crud that has been going around.  I went and got a rocephin shot and man those things do wonders.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if one day they do find a cure for the common cold.

Halloween went off without a hitch.  I didn’t go as Robin Hood as I previously posted, but I went as a Navy sailor.  I thought I looked good.  I’m going as Robin Hood next year for sure.  We had a fantastic party at my friend, Justin’s house.  Me and one of bestest friends, Nilda, decorated all afternoon and we had pumpkins, lights, and spider webs everywhere.  It was really nice and it was nice for the gang to get together.

This weekend, we are throwing a big 30th birthday bash for my friend Justin.  Him and his new roommate, Mitzi, are in Florida on vacation and will be coming back Saturday afternoon.  We are going to start at O’Charley’s in Tupelo and who knows where we will end up after that.

Finally, let me talk about the election.  GO OBAMA!!  I will be the first to admit that I did shed a few tears when he won.  It has just been a hard 8 years we’ve had to deal with and now maybe we will get a better country and life out of this.  I hope and I pray that Obama and the new Congress will come together for the good of the United States to better ourselves and make this a more perfect union.

Well, I hope all of you have had a blessed Thursday.  ONLY 2 MORE WEEKS till Thanksgiving.  I can’t wait to get turkey, my grandmother’s chicken & dressing, and some pumpkin pie.  I’m going to get fat as a hog.  LOL
